Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers before you spend a penny.
Websites, SEO and business advice are difficult to judge before you buy. This page answers the questions people usually ask, including the awkward ones.
Read the answersAsk us directly. We would rather give you a clear answer than push you towards a service you do not need.
Working with us
Before we start.
The most important question is not whether we can sell you something. It is whether we are the right fit for the business and the problem you are trying to solve.
What type of businesses do you work with?
We work mainly with owner-led trade and service businesses. That includes established trades, specialist cleaning and repair companies, training businesses, local professional services and firms that sell expertise rather than physical products.
We are particularly useful when the business is already proven but has reached a plateau, relies too heavily on referrals, needs a stronger website or wants a clearer route to growth.
Do you only work with trades?
No. Trades are a major part of our work because we understand them well, but we also work with specialist service businesses, professional services and training companies.
The common factor is usually an owner-led business that needs clearer positioning, better visibility or stronger commercial direction.
Do you work with businesses outside South Wales?
Yes. We work with clients across the UK. Strategy, web design, SEO, Google Business Profile management and ongoing support can all be handled remotely.
Local knowledge still matters, so we research the areas, competitors and customer behaviour relevant to each business rather than applying the same plan everywhere.
Will you work with one of my direct competitors?
We do not want two clients paying us to compete for the same customers in the same local market.
Where there is a genuine conflict involving the same service and area, we will say so before any work begins. Businesses in different locations can often be supported without a conflict.
Are you a large agency?
No. Local Edge Digital is deliberately small and specialist.
You deal with the people responsible for the thinking and the work, not an account manager who passes messages between departments. We take on a limited number of clients so the work remains personal and properly considered.
Who will I actually deal with?
Business growth conversations are led by Melissa Edwards. Websites, SEO, Google visibility, AI search and digital implementation are led by David Edwards.
Where the work overlaps, Melissa and David work together so the commercial plan and the digital work support the same goal.
What happens during the first conversation?
We ask about the business, where work currently comes from, what feels stuck, what you want to improve and what has already been tried.
It is not a scripted sales call. The aim is to work out whether there is a genuine fit and whether the next step should involve business advice, digital work, both or neither.
What if you think we do not need your services?
We will tell you.
Sometimes the existing website is good enough. Sometimes SEO is not the current priority. Sometimes the problem sits in pricing, conversion, capacity or follow-up. We would rather give you an honest answer than start the wrong project.
Business growth
Advice grounded in real businesses.
This is not vague coaching or motivational talk. It is a practical look at what is stopping the business from moving forward and what should happen next.
What is a Business Growth Review?
It is a focused session with Melissa to examine where the business is now, what is limiting progress and where the strongest opportunities sit.
The review may cover positioning, pricing, lead flow, conversion, profitability, capacity, customer experience, systems and owner dependence. The purpose is to leave with clear priorities rather than a longer list of ideas.
Is this the same as business coaching?
No. Business coaching often focuses on mindset, motivation or accountability.
Our work is practical and commercial. It draws on first-hand experience of starting, growing, running and selling service businesses. The discussion is centred on the decisions, numbers, systems and market position of the business.
Is the Business Growth Review only for struggling businesses?
No. Many good businesses reach a point where growth slows, the owner becomes overloaded or the next move is unclear.
The review is useful when the business is stable but has plateaued, when demand is inconsistent, when growth has created pressure or when the owner wants to make the business more profitable and less dependent on them.
What if my main problem is simply a lack of leads?
That may be exactly the issue.
A strong business can plateau because too few people can find it. In that case, the review helps confirm that the operation has capacity, the offer is sound and greater visibility is the right next move. We can then recommend the most suitable mix of website work, SEO, Google Business Profile improvement or content.
Will you tell me to change prices, services or the way we work?
We may raise those questions where they are relevant, but the business remains yours.
The purpose is to give you an experienced outside view and explain what we believe is limiting progress. Any decision to change pricing, services, staffing or systems stays with you.
Do I have to use Local Edge Digital for implementation?
No. The Business Growth Review has value on its own.
Where websites, SEO or other digital work are part of the answer, we can deliver them. You are not required to use us, and we will say when the right solution sits outside our services.
Can you help me step away from day-to-day delivery?
We can help identify where the business depends too heavily on you and what needs to change before responsibility can be handed over safely.
That may involve clearer processes, better delegation, tighter job roles, improved reporting or a more selective service model. We will not pretend there is a quick fix, but we can help you identify the right sequence.
Can you help if I do not want a larger business?
Yes. Growth does not have to mean more staff, more vans or more turnover.
It can mean better margins, better customers, fewer working hours, more reliable demand or a business that is easier to run. The right plan depends on the business you actually want.
Websites
Built to do a job.
A website should make the business easier to trust, easier to understand and easier to choose. Looking impressive is not enough.
How do I know whether I need a new website?
You may need a new website if the current one is difficult to use, slow, dated, hard to update, poorly structured for search or failing to explain why customers should choose you.
We do not recommend a rebuild automatically. If the current site can be improved without replacing it, we will explain that.
Will the website be written for me?
Yes. We do not expect clients to produce polished sales copy or work out the structure themselves.
We gather the information from you, research the market and write the content around the customer, the service and the search terms that matter.
Do I need to supply professional photographs?
Real photographs are strongly preferred, especially for trade and service businesses. Customers want to see the people, equipment, vehicles and work behind the company.
We can advise on the images needed and work with what you already have. Where better photography would make a major difference, we will tell you before the design is finalised.
Will the website work properly on mobile phones?
Yes. Mobile performance is treated as essential, not an optional extra.
Most local service searches happen on phones, so the site is designed to be clear, fast and easy to contact from smaller screens.
Will I own the website?
Yes. Once the agreed project fees are paid, the website and its content belong to your business.
Hosting, licences and ongoing support are separate services. You are not trapped simply because we built the site.
Can I update the website myself?
Yes. We build on WordPress, which means the site can be edited and expanded.
Some clients prefer us to manage changes under a care plan. Others want access to make basic updates themselves. Both options are available.
What happens after the website goes live?
A new website is the starting point, not the finish line.
We can provide hosting, maintenance, content changes, SEO, Google Business Profile support and ongoing improvements. The level of support depends on what the business needs.
Can you redesign my existing website without losing rankings?
Usually, yes, but it needs to be handled carefully.
Existing URLs, content, rankings and backlinks should be reviewed before launch. Redirects and technical checks are used where necessary so useful search visibility is protected rather than discarded during the redesign.
SEO and Google
Visibility that builds over time.
SEO is not a switch that gets turned on. It is the steady work of making the business easier for search engines and customers to understand and trust.
How long does SEO take?
There is no honest fixed answer.
Timescales depend on the age and condition of the website, the strength of competitors, the locations being targeted, existing reviews and how much authority the business already has. Early movement may appear within weeks, but meaningful and stable gains usually take months.
Can you guarantee first place on Google?
No credible SEO company can guarantee a specific ranking because Google controls the results.
We can show the work being carried out, explain the strategy, track progress and point to results achieved for other service businesses. We will not make a promise that nobody can honestly control.
Why should I pay monthly for SEO?
Search visibility is affected by ongoing competition, new content, reviews, website changes, Google updates and the activity of other businesses in the market.
Monthly work allows the site and Google Business Profile to improve steadily rather than being treated as a one-off project and then neglected.
What exactly do you do each month?
The work depends on the business, but it may include:
- Website and technical improvements
- Service and location content
- Google Business Profile updates
- Review strategy and response guidance
- Internal linking and page improvement
- Competitor and ranking checks
- Content for Google and AI search visibility
We do not fill reports with activity for the sake of it. The work should have a clear reason.
Do I need SEO if most of my work comes from referrals?
Perhaps not immediately, but referral dependence can create a ceiling.
Organic visibility gives the business a way to reach customers who do not already know somebody who can recommend you. It can also support referrals because people often search the business name before making contact.
What is the difference between SEO and Google Ads?
Google Ads buys visibility. SEO builds visibility.
Ads can create traffic quickly, but the enquiries stop when the spend stops. SEO usually takes longer, but strong rankings can continue producing demand without paying for every click. Some businesses benefit from one; others use both.
Can you improve my Google Business Profile without doing full SEO?
Yes. Google Business Profile support can be provided as a standalone service where the profile is the main opportunity.
That may include optimisation, posts, photographs, services, review activity, questions and answers, and local rank tracking.
What is AI search optimisation?
It is the work of making the business easier for AI-powered search tools to understand, trust and mention.
In practice, that still depends heavily on strong website structure, clear service information, genuine expertise, reviews, local authority and useful content. It is not a separate trick or a button that can be switched on.
Will AI replace Google and make SEO pointless?
Search behaviour is changing, but the need for trustworthy business information is not.
Businesses with strong websites, clear expertise, genuine reviews and consistent authority are better placed to appear in both traditional search and AI-generated answers. The format may change, but being easy to understand and trust remains valuable.
What if I have paid for SEO before and nothing happened?
We would first look at what was actually done.
Some campaigns fail because the strategy was weak. Others fail because the website, market or budget made the target unrealistic. We will review the current position, explain what appears to have happened and tell you whether further SEO is justified.
Costs and results
The questions people often avoid asking.
Price matters. So do timescales, risk, contracts and what happens when expectations are not met.
How much does it cost to work with Local Edge Digital?
It depends on the work required.
Website projects, ongoing SEO, Google Business Profile management and business growth support are priced separately. We explain the cost before work begins and do not add services simply to make the proposal larger.
Why are some agencies cheaper?
Prices vary because the level of thinking, writing, design, research and ongoing involvement varies.
A cheaper website may use a template with generic copy. A cheaper SEO service may rely on the same checklist for every client. That may be enough for some businesses. Our work is built around the individual company and the market it operates in.
Do you require long contracts?
Project work is covered by an agreed scope and payment schedule.
Ongoing services need enough time to do useful work, particularly SEO, but we do not believe in hiding poor service behind a contract. The exact terms are explained clearly before you agree.
Will I be tied into your hosting?
No. We offer managed hosting because it allows us to maintain performance, security and support, but the website remains yours.
Should you decide to move elsewhere, the site can be transferred once the account is up to date.
How will I know whether the work is working?
The measures depend on the project.
They may include rankings, Google Business Profile visibility, organic traffic, calls, enquiries, conversion, average job value or the quality of work being won. We try to connect digital activity to business outcomes rather than reporting numbers with no commercial meaning.
What results should I realistically expect?
That depends on the starting point, competition, location, budget and how well the business converts and delivers the work generated.
Before starting, we explain what appears realistic. We do not present exceptional case studies as though every business will follow the same path.
What if I am not happy with the work?
Tell us early.
Clear feedback is easier to act on while the project is in progress. We agree the scope, gather approval at key stages and address problems directly rather than allowing frustration to build.
Can I start with one service and add others later?
Yes. Many clients begin with a website, a Business Growth Review or Google Business Profile support and add further work later.
Starting smaller is often sensible when the priorities are clear and there is no reason to do everything at once.
Do you offer payment plans?
Larger website projects are normally split into staged payments.
Ongoing services are billed monthly. Any payment arrangement is agreed before work begins so there are no surprises.
How soon can we start?
That depends on current workload and the type of project.
We keep client numbers limited, so there may be a short wait. We will give you an honest start date before you commit rather than taking payment and leaving the project sitting in a queue.
No pressure.
No mystery packages.
Just a clear answer about what comes next.
