Cleaning Company Google Ads Cost & Break-Even Calculator

Work out what a lead can actually cost before a campaign starts eating the profit from the jobs it produces.

This calculator connects advertising costs to your job value, margins, booking rate and repeat work. It does not assume that every enquiry becomes a customer—or that revenue and profit are the same thing.

Job-value basedUses the value of the work you actually sell.
Profit awareSeparates turnover from gross profit.
Booking adjustedAllows for enquiries that never become jobs.
Repeat work includedModels additional 12-month customer value.
A commercial test—not a traffic forecast

Can the jobs support the clicks?

Google Ads can deliver an enquiry and still lose a cleaning company money. The economics depend on what happens after the click.

A £20 enquiry has no fixed value. It may be expensive for a low-value one-off clean, perfectly viable for a larger carpet and upholstery job, or exceptionally valuable when it leads to a recurring commercial contract.

This tool calculates a threshold, not a promise.

Your actual results will depend on local competition, search demand, campaign structure, the landing page, telephone handling, quote follow-up and the accuracy of the figures you enter.

The figures will appear as soon as the calculator loads.

Break-even total cost per enquiry £0.00 Maximum before customer acquisition consumes projected gross profit.
Target total cost per enquiry £0.00 Allows you to retain your selected share of gross profit.
Projected total cost per enquiry £0.00 Ad spend and management divided by projected enquiries.
Approx. break-even media CPC £0.00 Adjusted for the management cost entered above.
Projected enquiries / month 0 From 0 estimated clicks.
Projected booked jobs 0 Based on your enquiry-to-booking rate.
12-month customer revenue created £0 First jobs plus the repeat revenue you entered.
Contribution after marketing £0 Gross profit less ad spend and management; before fixed overhead and tax.

Calculated figures are estimates, not guarantees. “Gross margin” should exclude the direct costs required to complete the work. The calculation does not include fixed overhead, tax, cash-flow timing or cancellations.

Three figures—not one headline number

The calculator gives you a break-even point, a chosen target and a forecast based on the CPC and conversion rate you entered.

01

Break-even cost per enquiry

The absolute ceiling under your assumptions. At this figure, projected customer gross profit is consumed by acquisition. It is not a sensible long-term target.

02

Target cost per enquiry

Your more useful control figure. It protects the percentage of gross profit you chose to retain after advertising and management costs.

03

Projected cost per enquiry

What the campaign could produce if your CPC and landing-page conversion assumptions are accurate. Compare this with the target—not with a generic agency benchmark.

Cleaning is not one market

Why the same lead cost means different things

Campaign viability changes with the service being advertised and the customer being acquired.

Carpet and upholstery cleaning

Combined rooms, sofas, stain treatments and protectors can raise the value of a booking. The important figure is the average completed job—not the cheapest advertised room price.

Oven cleaning

A lower individual job value makes wasted travel and weak booking rates more damaging. Route density and the number of appliances booked together can materially change the ceiling.

Regular domestic cleaning

The first visit may not justify the acquisition cost on its own. Retention and realistic recurring revenue determine whether the customer becomes profitable.

End-of-tenancy cleaning

Job values may be larger, but scope, property size, access, extras and price-sensitive enquiries affect both gross margin and the number of quotes that become bookings.

Commercial cleaning

Contract value can support a higher acquisition cost, but an enquiry is not a signed contract. Qualification, site visits, proposals and a longer sales process must be reflected in the booking rate.

Exterior cleaning

Driveways, render, roofs and larger packages have different values and equipment costs. Separate services rather than averaging every exterior-cleaning job together.

Before spending

Find seven numbers you can defend

Start with completed jobs, not optimism. A small set of accurate figures is more useful than a large advertising forecast built on guesses.

Your website also changes the calculation. If the page does not explain the service, location, proof and next step clearly, fewer paid visitors will enquire. See our approach to web design for cleaning companies.

1
Average completed job value

Total relevant revenue divided by completed jobs—not your headline “from” price.

2
Direct cost per job

Labour, fuel, chemicals, card charges and other costs that rise when work is completed.

3
Enquiry-to-booking rate

Use qualified enquiries and completed bookings from the same period.

4
Repeat customer value

Include only repeat work that the acquired customers realistically generate.

5
Landing-page conversion rate

Measure actual enquiries from paid visitors; telephone and WhatsApp clicks alone can overstate it.

6
Likely cost per click

Use current Keyword Planner forecasts or recent account data for the services and locations targeted.

7
Total campaign cost

Include both Google media spend and any management charge when judging profitability.

What the dashboard cannot tell you alone

A lead is not the finished result

The campaign should be judged against qualified enquiries, booked work and customer value—not every recorded button click.

A call can be a job seeker. A form can be outside the service area. A WhatsApp conversation can end without a quote. Equally, one modest first booking can become a valuable repeat customer.

Record the source, service, location, quote value, booking outcome, completed revenue and repeat work. That is how the assumptions entered above become more accurate over time.

Paid search can produce demand quickly. SEO for cleaning companies builds a separate source of visibility that does not charge for each click. The right balance depends on urgency, margins and the strength of the existing site.

Questions before launch

Cleaning company Google Ads calculator FAQs

How much should a cleaning company spend on Google Ads?

There is no responsible universal starting budget. It must be large enough to generate a meaningful number of relevant clicks in the chosen area, but small enough that the business can absorb an unprofitable test. Use the calculator with cautious conversion and booking rates, then compare the required click volume with current Keyword Planner forecasts.

What is a good cost per lead for a cleaning company?

A good cost per lead is one that leaves sufficient gross profit after allowing for enquiries that do not book. It therefore depends on average customer value, margin and booking rate. Two cleaning companies paying the same amount per enquiry can have completely different outcomes.

Why does the calculator use gross margin?

Revenue is not the amount available to buy a customer. Completing the work has direct costs, including labour, travel, chemicals and payment charges. Gross margin provides a more realistic view of what remains before advertising, fixed overhead and tax.

Should repeat cleaning work be included?

Yes, when it is supported by genuine customer history. Enter only the additional revenue a newly acquired customer is reasonably likely to produce during the following 12 months. Avoid assuming that every first-time customer becomes a regular.

Does a telephone or WhatsApp click count as a lead?

It can be recorded as an interaction, but it should not automatically be treated as a qualified enquiry. Where possible, distinguish clicks from connected calls, genuine quote requests, bookings and completed jobs.

Does the result guarantee that a campaign will be profitable?

No. It is a planning model based entirely on the figures entered. Local demand, competitors, account structure, search terms, adverts, landing pages, response times and sales handling will affect the real outcome.

When the numbers make sense
