Whether you’re a plumber, cleaner, roofer or beautician, chances are your website isn’t performing or ranking as well it should.
And with some of the more common website SEO issues we come across, you don’t need to be a technical wizard to put things back on the right track.
Here are 5 simple yet powerful SEO fixes you can make today to help customers find you on Google.
Add your main service areas to your homepage
Google needs to know where you work.
Don’t assume it knows just because your address is in the footer and the contact page.
Quick win: Add location and service relevant content within the text of the homepage.
For example:
“We provide professional oven cleaning in Luton, Dunstable and Bedford.”
Bonus: Link each town name to a dedicated service area page (you should specific pages for all services and locations you cover).
Fix your page titles
Your page titles are the first thing Google sees — and the first thing potential customers read.
Bad example:Home | ABC Oven Cleaning Services
Good example:Oven Cleaning in Bedford | ABC Oven Cleaning Services
Make sure every page title includes:
-
The service
-
The location
Do this in your website builder’s SEO settings or with a plugin like RankMath (if using WordPress).
Compress your images
Speed matters. Large, uncompressed images slow your website and hinder your rankings.
How to fix:
-
Run images through Tinify.
-
Keep image files under 300KB
-
Use JPEGs for photos, PNGs for logos
If your site takes too long to load, you’re losing visitors (and rankings).
Add Internal Links to Your Main Pages
Internal links tell Google which pages relate to which keywords.
Do this today:
-
Add internal links within blog posts or service pages to each of your location specific service pages. It also helps to use either the location or service (or very often both) within the links.
-
In our case, we use keyword relevant links like: “SEO for carpet cleaners“, and “Check out our local SEO packages”
Internal links provide a map of the content on your site, helping Google to understand which pages best serve searcher queries.
Get 3 Google reviews this week
Google reviews are the #1 trust signal for local SEO for local and service businesses.
Do this now:
-
Text 5 recent happy clients:
“Hi [Name], would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? Here’s the link – it helps more than you know: [Your Google Review Link]”
Tip: Make your link short and memorable. If you want, we can help you build and publish a Google Review Link Generator for your website.
